Hej/ciao from Stockholm!
My name is Sofia Nannini and I am a research fellow in Architectural History at the University of Bologna in Italy.
I am currently spending one month in Stockholm as a Visiting fellow at the School of Architecture of KTH University thanks to the fantastic support of the C.M. Lerici Foundation.
As a researcher, I am particularly interested in the history of architecture and engineering in the Nordic countries, with a special focus on building materials such as concrete.
After writing my PhD dissertation on Icelandic concrete architecture, my current research project tackles the early uses of cement, concrete and reinforced concrete in Sweden between the late 19th century and the early 20th century. My aim is to trace how concrete technology developed in Sweden and how this building material influenced the architectural production of the country. In order to answer these questions, I am studying the amazing collections of books and journals of the National Library of Sweden and of the KTH Library.
I am very grateful to Professor Anders Bergström (KTH) for hosting me as a visiting fellow and to the board of the Lerici Foundation for this amazing opportunity!
