My name is Alessandro Ferraro, I am a Ph.D. candidate in Contemporary Arts at the University of Genoa.
Thanks to the C.M. Lerici Foundation’s grant and the support of the Hilma af Klint Foundation and the Director Jessica Höglund, I am currently spending one month in Stockholm for my research on the Swedish painter Hilma af Klint (1862 – 1944).
My project, strictly related to my Ph.D. thesis “Abstraction as a Historical Condition: Historiographical and Critical Approaches through the History of Abstraction”, highlights Hilma af Klint’s wide range of cultural and scientific interests, from her studies in botany and philosophy of nature to her reflections about reality, spiritual worlds and abstraction.
For my project in Stockholm, I am researching on af Klint’s own private notebooks and writings, as well as on books and art catalogues from Konstbiblioteket – Moderna Museet, Kungliga biblioteket and Konstfack Bibliotek.
Thank you C.M. Lerici Foundation for this opportunity!
